Where the Wild Natives Grow

Explores an interplay between the materiality of hot-sculptured glass and forged stainless steel. This wall mounted work comprises of four individual works, each with twinned glass vessels mounted on wild tendrils of steel, the vessels provide a lush, organic receptacle with multiple openings for seasonal flowers, branches and foliage. The steel lengths, belted to create a texture akin to tree bark, juxtapose the smooth, feminine curves of the glass forms. The overall affect is wild and naturalistic and pushes the concept of the tulipiere out of its staid tabletop form and to something far more contemporary and distinctly antipodean.

FLORA, is a group exhibition featuring the work of five functional artists working from the starting point of the Dutch tulipiere, an archetypal form that emerged in the 17th Century Delft pottery in the midst of nascent globalisation. With this in mind the artists created works across ceramics, glass, bronze, steel and latex.
