Sustainable Stubbies

Are you interested in surrounding yourself with objects that reflect a consciousness of the sustainability of our planet?

Sustainable stubbies up-cycles manufactured bottles into re-fillable, re-usable vases, jugs and tumblers. Using traditional hot glass techniques bottles are reclaimed and manipulated using a heating process and transformed into unique, collectable treasures.

Minimum online order – 4pack.

…How are they made?

Firstly I collect empty bottles from bars, café’s and restaurants in my local area. My friends are passionate supporters to my cause and drink with a great sense of purpose and deliver their cases of much enjoyed empties.

I then rigorously wash the bottles by soaking & scrubbing the labels off, any residue of label gum or beer will mark the glass forever. The bottles are cut at the desired length using a diamond saw and rewashed.

They are then stacked into a kiln and pre-heated to 560degrees. Utilizing my glass blowing skills & studio I pick each bottle up individually and transfer it to a hotter chamber (known as the glory hole), once the glass is malleable I can manipulate freely for example, plunging the tumbler over a hexagonal mould and/or indenting a spot for the ergonomics of the thumb.

Due to this extensive heating process the glass is considerably more durable than when originally manufactured making it able to cope with the dishwasher experience.
