Lens rondels for Northcote House & Arthurton House

We’ve worked across two multi-award winning projects with LLDS Architects; Northcote House and Arthurton House.

For Northcote House, we were commissioned to fabricate a rondel for the bedroom window with the vaulted soffit, designed to refract light and obscure the direct view from the entrance. This alongside Liam Fleming’s pieces making up the roof structure were the only “free workmanship” pieces within the project, working with the natural variations of handblown glass to maximise light distortion.

For Arthurton House, we created a collection of 12 lenses to be installed in the ceiling of a cylindrical stairwell for a local private residence.

The roof above the circular stairwell consists of 1 large skylight and 12 smaller handblown skylights, each 300mm in diameter. LLDS wanted the glass to be domed so that rainwater would naturally drain off, and the material relatively thick with undulations to generate a unique light play off the stairwell wall.
