  • No experience, no worries! Our classes are designed to be a fun and welcoming environment for beginners.

    The only class that requires prior knowledge is our Intermediate Glassblowing workshop. For this one, the Introductory Workshop must be completed beforehand.

    Our teachers are here to guide you through the process; you are the artist!

  • For safety reasons, all participants in the hot shop are required to wear closed-toe shoes. We also recommend wearing a loose, cotton top and long pants made from natural fibres such as denim or cotton.

    Safety glasses are provided. If you have your own prescription safety glasses, feel free to bring them along.

  • Our workshops are designed to make YOU the artist.

    Upon arrival at the Ruth Allen studio, you'll be introduced to our friendly teachers and fellow participants. The class begins with a mandatory safety induction and an introduction to the tools.

    Our teachers will then outline the workshop plan, detailing what you'll create. Colour swatches are available to help you choose your colours, and our shelves are brimming with glass art to inspire you.

    During the workshop, you'll either be working directly with the tools or guiding our artists (in the Gaffer workshop) to bring your creation to life.

    By the end of the workshop, you'll have placed at least one item in the kiln to cool overnight.

    Within approximately 24-48 hours, we'll notify you that your glass art is ready for collection!

  • Each glass item requires a slow, overnight cooling process in our kiln. In most cases, your item will be available for collection within a short 24-48 hours.

    You can pick up your piece in person from the Ruth Allen studio or have it shipped via Australia Post (estimated cost: $15.00).

  • All our workshops take place at the sunlight Ruth Allen studio.

    On-street parking is available, and the nearest train station (Batman) is a 10 minute walk away.

    You'll know you've arrived when you see the green gate, number 10, and a welcoming "workshop" sign.

  • All workshops begin with a safety induction. If you miss this induction, you will be unable to participate. For this reason, we strongly encourage all participants to arrive early to avoid disappointment.

  • A 24-hour notice is required for cancellations.

    If you are unwell on the day, please contact our staff prior to the scheduled start time. For safety reasons, we do not want anyone participating if they are not feeling 100%. We may be able to reschedule if given enough notice.
