12 Lenses for domestic residence

Commissioned by LLDS Architects to create a collection of 12 lenses to be installed in the ceiling of a cylindrical stairwell of a local private residence.

Architectural brief: The circular stairwell is a rammed earth wall with a plywood domed roof; the roof consists of 1 large skylight and 12 smaller handblown skylights, each 300mm in diameter, with 200mm visible.

LLDS wanted the glass to be domed so that rainwater would naturally drain off, and the material relatively thick with undulations of approximately 10mm - 20mm to generate a unique light play off the stairwell wall.
