Sarah Nedovic Studio, proudly introduces Readymade, a distinctive limited edition pendant light series, set to illuminate the 2024 Melbourne Design Week. What sets this creation apart is its origin: a harmonious blend of sustainability, artistry, and community engagement. The genesis of this unique light lies in the cycles of consumption, a narrative that breathes life into this installation.
Readymade pays homage to a movement coined by French-American painter, Marcel Duchamp, referring to mass-produced commonplace objects removed from their regular setting and elevated to the rank of artworks solely via the artist’s choosing. In this sense, recycled glass bottles find a second life as bespoke pendant lights suspended from the ceiling of Marion Wine Bar. This transformative process reflects a commitment to environmental responsibility, breathing new purpose into materials that would otherwise be discarded. What makes these fixtures truly exceptional is the circular process, a homecoming of sorts. The recycled glass, shaped by heat into pendant lights, returns to the wine bar setting, reconnecting with the very environment that births the materials. In doing so, the studio contributes to the space’s ambience, forging a unique correlation between creation and context.
The fixtures invite individuals to see greater potential in seemingly mundane materials of our everyday environment. In unveiling this collection at the wine bar, Sarah Nedovic Studio not only showcases its artistic evolution but invites patrons to participate in a narrative of reinvention, fostering a deeper appreciation for the inherent beauty within sustainable design.
