Curved, powder coated aluminium wall that spans 7.1 × 1.8m, with carefully cut slits illuminating works from behind with an RGBW programmable system. Rather than simply lighting the work, illumination is carefully composed. Hidden behind each element, light is choreographed through precisely cut apertures within the supporting wall, allowing the glass to appear as though it possesses an inner luminescence.
The work has a programmable lighting system, enabling an infinite spectrum of colour and intensity. This ever-changing illumination allows ‘Engrained’ to shift in atmosphere and emotion, orchestrating a quiet symphony of mood, energy and presence.
Engrained is inspired by the quiet architecture of tree bark - nature’s enduring record of time, growth and resilience. Molten glass has been blown into moulds lined with Eucalypt bark, capturing every fissure and contour with remarkable fidelity.
Special thanks to my client who passionately shared the creative vision and had the utmost trust and faith that all parts would come together seamlessly.
