Laura de Carteret

Laura de Carteret is a multidisciplinary artist based in Naarm (Melbourne, Australia). They are working predominantly as a glass blower and metal-smith, completing their Bachelor of Fine Arts (Gold and Silversmithing) at RMIT. Their hybrid practice places pleasure and discomfort in dialogue generating visceral and animated forms. With an intuitive approach to materials, Laura creates biomorphic artefacts that are otherworldly.

Laura’s Interview

A study of the textures of trees and shell formations, this work traces the layered rhythms of nature as a reflection of growth and memory.

Through glass, fluidity becomes form, reflecting the dualities of human experience — fragility and strength, permanence and change, containment and release — a vessel of protection, memory, and becoming.
