Using the Venetian technique of Murrine, these one of a kind Aquatic Punch bowls have been made with a team of three highly skilled hot glass artisans. It takes the skill and focus of these 3 people to execute the streamlined form and scale of this marvellous piece.
To make these bowls is a four step process: First the Murrine is pulled, creating a pattern from hot glass into long noodles. Next it is cut into short little pieces that are laid out like a mosaic. Then a base of Opal hot glass is rolled over the mosaic of Murrine, allowing the Murrine to wrap over the base and cover it completely. This is then heated and blown into the bowl shape. To finish the piece off, it is sandblasted and polished, resulting in a high quality finish that is safe to use and wash.
The Aquatic Punch Bowls have a three dimensional quality to them, from the colour interaction of the white and blue washing over each other in the blowing process. The classic Aquatic teal colour is hand-mixed in our studio.
